4 years agoHi Court. Thanks for another great review. Random question – would you be open to doing an AMA (ask me anything) over on the e-bike subreddit? I’m sure people there would love to pick your brain and it would be some nice free advertising for your site (the sub currently has about 45,000 subscribers). Let me know what you think. If you want to check out the sub, go to reddit.com/r/ebikes. Cheers

4 years agoHi Luke! That has crossed my mind, I’ve followed some subreddits before such as uplifting news and toastme. Occasionally I’ll pass through the ebike area and poke around. Things have been really busy lately, so maybe when they slow down and I can dedicate some time to doing it right I’ll go for an AMA. Do you mind if I contact you again for help with his?!

4 years agoAt 60lbs I find myself uninterested, especially at that price. We are starting to see more under 40lb e bikes in the price range. Just saying…

4 years agoHi Aber! I feel ya, 60lbs is pretty heavy. I’m not aware of too many commuter ready ebikes with the nice fenders, racks, and lights, that also have a higher capacity battery like this that weigh under 45lbs. Maybe the closest product is the Specialized Vado SL, and you’d have to buy multiple range extender battery packs to make it work. I like that the Samedi Xroad models have a suspension fork compared to the Vado SL, but that also adds weight. Which ebikes come to mind for you in this category that are lighter?

4 years agoHi. My question; can I still biking back home if no more power in the battery… so dry empty..!??? And how it work??? (just like a normal paddel or push bicycle!? For example, on trail in forest)
I leave in a mountainous landscape Yukon territory Canada… lots lots lots of hills here…. Question; how it stand in cold weather (motor???) what his recommendation by Bosch CX line cut off Temperature Celsius!!??? (limited internal damage belt and other plastic parts).
Question: waterproof or splash proof motor Bosch CX line???? Or avoid 100% immersion motor in creeks???? Thanks for your time to reply to me .
Sincerely
ReplyL.

4 years agoGreat questions, sorry for the slow reply here. I think that Bosch rates their ebike systems as highly water and dust resistant, but not fully waterproof (so do not submerge). They work well in cold temperatures, but the battery might not give you as much range (it could go as low as 1/2 the distance when freezing). Yes, the bike may be ridden as a normal bicycle without electric assist (if the battery runs out), and you can pedal efficiently with gears on this bike, but it will be heavier than a non-electric bike. Think of it like having 20lbs (9kg) of extra weight attached to a normal bicycle. The pedaling will still be easy and efficient, no extra drag, just extra weight. I hope this helps! I do recommend storing and charging the battery in a regular temperature to help it work better vs. storing it in a cold garage or outside.

3 years agoHi Court, I’m seriously considering this ebike as an option to get my kid to school, commute and weekend offroad trips, maybe even some long bike trips and eventually capable of some rough terrain and mild trails with rocks and roots. I know I’m asking for a jack of all trades and that I’ll have to compromise on something. Could you provide some light on its limitations and maybe propose some more capable alternatives at the same cost range?

3 years agoHi David! I think this bike would be ideal for what you’re describing, and it would be difficult to find this level of quality and performance for less money. For example Specialized has this new bike called the Turbo Taro, and you can see their model without fenders, rack, and lights for $5k USD with a Brose motor vs. Bosch Performance Line here. I should add that it seems Specialized has been very low on inventory, so even if you preferred their hardtail utility bike… it might be difficult to find. The negatives of the Moustache are increased weight due to Bosch PowerTube metal housing, the non-locking plastic cover, maybe the limited color choices? I think there’s a lot to love about the Samedi 27 Xroad 5 here (including the suspension seatpost, swept back handlebar, removable display with USB charger, and just the quality of accessories). Hope this helps! You can find less expensive hub motor powered ebikes with rack and fenders, but the experience will be different and the longevity may be less.
