8 years agoBonjour, Comme toujours, j’apprécie vos essais, merci.

8 years agoGreat review, thanks! I was wondering what is the clutch on the drivetrain? Why tighten the chain?
Replycourt
8 years agoHi Christian, the Shadow+ clutch tightens the derailleur which reduces chain bounce and slip. It’s used on higher end mountain bikes so that the chain doesn’t flop off or bang the chainstay as much but it also makes shifting a little stiffer, requiring more effort. So you can adjust this little grey lever on top of the derailleur in the up position (tighter) or leave it down (normal) to fit the terrain in question. Here’s a video about it that shows the differences… with a smaller chainring on the front of this bike it becomes especially useful and is popular with one-by setups on non-electric bikes for the same reason.

7 years agoThis is the bike I want! The Charger Mixte Nuvinci HS. However, living in the US Midwest equates to an E bike desert. There is one Riese $ Muller dealer in Excelsior MN -Minneapolis suburb – that carries Riese & Muller. I drove 8 hours from Chi (Chicago for the non natives) to get there! There stock of bikes to test ride was limited to five, with no 28 mph pedelecs. I like speed! Three of them were to large for me to even consider riding. I did ride a Roadster and CHarger Cruiser (swept-back handlebars). The was very nice. But it did not have the wider tires and was limited to only 20 mph. The Cruiser had a Nuvinci hub, but the handlebars and upright seating position took out most of the joy of riding in my opinion. That’s why they call it a cruiser! Dummy! The Minneapolis area is very hilly when compared to the Chicago land area I reside. The speeds on the downhill were exhilarating! I plan to order in the spring of 2018 – just don’t have five grand laying around right now. I also hope that maybe the new year will bring a 600 watt battery? Maybe a Riese & Muller dealer also? A man can dream? Right!

7 years agoHi Kevin! I’m not sure about 600 watt hour batteries, we just got the 500 wh upgrade, but the double-battery design from R&M is pretty cool. It would be nice to see more dealers in your area… I hope you’re able to save up and get this bike, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it again someday :)

7 years agoPropel Bikes in Brooklyn had a medium Charger GT Nuvinci HS in stock and decided to take the plunge. I just picked it up today (they shipped it by freight last Friday) and I took it for a brief test ride after getting it unpacked and adjusted. It’s quieter than I was expecting – having test ridden a Trek Super Commuter+ (which has the same motor). I’m charging it now and can’t wait to ride it into work tomorrow. I’ll post again once I’ve had a chance to put some miles on it.

7 years agoHi Court. Would love your feed back on this. Im stuck in between 2 bikers here. The RM or STROMER ST1 Platinum. Please HELP!
Replycourt
7 years agoHi Xhemel, it’s difficult to choose one over the other without knowing more about your style preferences and riding environment. My own choice between the two would be the Riese & Müller because it uses a Bosch mid-drive and I have come to trust their reliability. The Charger Mixte GT Touring HS offers higher speed, fenders, a great rear rack and lock, and a comfortable suspension fork! Comfort is a big deal to me, along with safety, so I love the bigger tires and the suspension seat post :D
