4 years agoI got mine from Amego here in Toronto, best bike I ever owed, fast as heck, 50kph on flat ground is no problem and I’m 69 years old. It is the perfect machine here I can stay even with heavy traffic downtown Toronto, I have the large blue battery and its good for 110 kilometers on level 2 all day, I have level 2 set up for max torque (get away from cars as red lights) and 3/4 speed (Level 2 has many customization whereas level 3 is all out gonzo and wastes battery) To turn the headlight off hold down the headlight switch. many dealers carry the racktime accessories in Canada so I’m sure it is the same in the USA. Stromer still have a California office because I talked to them the day I got the bike, they are the one that set up your pin * email address with the dealer or the app will not work because it has to be registered to the actual owner. Amego forgot to add the “push & hold plus button” to hold speed at 20kph if you need it (like a mini throttle) and they downloaded it to my bike which took about 60 seconds over the air. Support from Stromer is awesome. The bike is awesome, it is quicker and quieter than my Reise & Mueller charger every dreamed of being and I have to say there is just not another ebike in its class except for the ST5.

4 years agoOk, so is this thing gold plated underneath the black paint? Amazingly high price for this brand and model. Sheesh.
ReplyCourt
4 years agoYeah, it’s definitely on the more expensive side of the ebike spectrum… but I’m always impressed by the dedicated owners out there who LOVE their bikes, and all of the app features and tuning. I’m glad we have a bunch of options in the space these days, it’s okay for there to be “superbikes” that cost a lot, as well as the super affordable $1k ones too :)

4 years agoVery detailed review, saw it on YouTube last night. I got the Launch edition ST3, even pricier and spent the last two years sorting it out. The problems were minor individually, but added up, made for a less than satisfactory start to my ownership. Fortunately, I have a good bike shop backing it (The New Wheel in San Francisco) and the Stromer U.S. customer service rep has been great too. The bike is now performing the way it should and I look forward to the same reliable performance that I had with my ST1 X.
Your comments about the weight of the bike are spot on. I thought the ST1 X was heavy, but the first time I had to put this on the Ebike rack made me glad that I’ve been working out! I can also say that the Omni is a work in progress. In Berkeley, the Bluetooth locking features and the phone app work only about half the time. I’ve also found that lately the GPS doesn’t register that my bike is safely in my garage. Something simpler here would be better, with features that operated 100% of the time.
All this is forgotten, once I get on the bike. I have the WREN shock fork, along with a BodyFloat seat post and it makes short work of our bad street pavement. As you noted, this bike is QUIET. It’s also fast getting up to speed, even in City mode, where I keep it most of the time. For such a heavy bike, I also find it quite nimble, handles the high-speed curves on some of our longer hill streets. It has definitely replaced my car for running around Berkeley and Oakland, can actually beat the car getting to many destinations. The price of admission is high, making it not for everyone, but I fully intend to wring this bike out, getting my money’s worth. I’ve taken lengthy test rides on other commuters and I still feel this is the best of the bunch for my needs.

4 years agoHey Paul, I really enjoyed your comment. I work really hard on these reviews, trying to get all of the details correct with limited time. It’s encouraging to get some fine details from real owners that align with my own experience. I also struggled a bit with OMNI and agree that uptime and reliability is important when it comes to theft prevention. Yeah, the bike is heavy, but it’s fast and quiet too. My favorite part about your whole setup, including the suspension upgrades, is that you’re working with The New Wheel. Those guys are amazing. Bret and Karen are so nice, their two shops in SF and Marin are awesome, I actually called them to ask about the ST3 a bit before filming, to get a couple of additional questions resolved. You’re in good hands, ride safe out there! I used to live in Berkeley, San Francisco, Marin, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Redwood City, and Pacifica! Some of my favorite times… very special place. Thanks again man :)

4 years agoGreetings from Paris, France! I find your article online with my feedback. I have had a ST3 for almost a year now and I use it every day to get to work (10km). If I had to bring my reviews I would say that the connected part works very well except for the updates that never appear. I go from time to time on Stromer’s website and when an update is available I send them an email and the update magically appears ;-) Maybe 3G savings? I also find it a shame that the plastic of the horn is a little wider than the frame, it’s not very esthetic. The bike has 11 gears, but why? I never ride higher than the 4th gear, beyond that the power of the engine makes them useless. A very important point to mention is the quality of the braking, very powerful and helped by the automatic regeneration, it’s great and very safe. I am extremely happy with my purchase.

4 years agoWonderful! Thanks for adding your feedback, Francois. I’m glad you’re enjoying the bike and agree that the horn could be a little narrower or smaller. Maybe they could work on the whole plastic piece at the bottom bracket because the demo bike I got had some gaps there which caused concern.

2 years agoI own an ST3 launch edition and just love the bike… with one exception. I wish there was a way to heighten the handlebars. I have the comfort stem and Riser 20mm handlebar but I find myself leaning too far forward.
ReplyCourt
2 years agoHi Steve, I hear you on this. From the looks of it, the handlebar itself may be replaceable with a mid or high rise design. The ST3 stem is pretty custom and appears to be wider than normal where it clamps on. I don’t have a specific bar to recommend, but you could search Amazon for 31.8mm handlebars and look for mid-rise.
