8 years agoA bike struggling from a dead stop and uphill, even with an empty basket and a light-weight rider – something is wrong with this picture. They should’ve equipped it with 500-750W hub drive. And slightly better battery, 4810 Ah (not in a plastic wrap, please). Just my 2 cents.

8 years agoI hear where you’re coming from Alex. In my experience, hub motors usually struggle from rest. I was trying to show this limitation because I didn’t want people to assume the bike would just push them up anything without a bit of pedal input. It’s not a perfect system but I did like how comfortable and stable it was :)

5 years agoI now have over 100 miles on the odometer and had none of the problems described in the comments. As a transportation vehicle, it’s an excellent choice. The only problem I had is that with the handlebars, which somehow became loose. In the middle of the handlebars there is a grommet that covers a hex nut. You need a metric hex wrench so you tighten the loose nut and tighten the handlebars. No other problem.

5 years agoSweet! Congrats on the mileage and THANK YOU for the awesome testimonial and tip about keeping the handlebars tight. Hope you have many more relaxing rides, and chime in with more thoughts whenever you’d like, John. Cheers! Court

8 years agoAt what address is the Sun 24″ Traditional Electric shipped from? tks, Don C.

8 years agoHi Don, I believe they are shipped from: 951 River Rd, Croydon, PA 19021

8 years agoI’m a bit confused about pricing, This site is advertising the Sun Traditional with the 36v, 10ah aluminum encased battery for $1523 + $350 shipping + $91 tax (I’m assuming, as the sales tax in Maryland to be 6%) which all = $1964. ETrike.com (Croydon, PA) wants for the same $1683 for the unit, $250 shipping and (@ 6%) $101 tax which = $2034 which is $70 more. Aren’t you both the same company and shouldn’t the total cost be the same? Don Crawford

8 years agoHi Don! I don’t actually sell any bicycle products here, I just visit the manufacturers (ElectricTrike.com in this case) and they tell me the prices. I do my best to be accurate but sometimes they change prices or add fees that are not covered here. I would suggest contacting them and perhaps if there was some confusion they would offer a $50 discount or something to try to make it up to you :)

7 years agoHey Court, this basket is much bigger :) 11.7″ (297mm) x 6″ (148mm) x 2.7″ (68mm) are probably the battery dimensions. Good trike overall, now that they’ve added hydraulic rear brake. Optional 3 speed hub adds the cost, but still good.

7 years agoThanks for providing the measurements Alex! Glad to hear that they’ve upgraded to hydraulic rear brakes and the option for an internally geared 3-speed is wonderful… the ability to shift at standstill and pedal more comfortably at different speeds is a big win :D

5 years agoAm very interested in your Sun 24 inch trike kit. I have purchase a Raleigh trike 24-inch last December and being 90 years need a little assistance in peddling. Have been checking on different dealers and think your Sun 24 inch 36 volt 500 watt front wheel hub motor wold be just the one for me. Like the twist throttle, with reverse, tork arm, LED monitor but don’t need battery or battery case. Will the drop out on my front fork work with your wheel? I measured 4 inch? What is the cost of your kit? Thank you, Bill King

5 years agoHi Bill! I think this kit could be a great fit for you. we just reviewed a few new models from Electric Bike Technologies (the guys that make these trike kits and even fully-built electric trikes). Those won’t be published for a bit, but you could always call the company directly to ask for help and see if the kit would fit your Raleigh trike. Here’s their official website and their number is +1 888-220-6736 good luck!

5 years agoHi! It’s 2020. Are there any updates to this 2016 review? I’m a bit worried about this trike not taking a rather long, steep hill that my usual route requires, and hope that perhaps the motor is more powerful? Or can you suggest another similar trike? This looks amazing. One more question: Can any bike shop help make repairs and adjustments? THANKS!
ReplyCourt
5 years agoHi Wendy! Yeah, we’ve covered more products from the same designer/seller of these electric trikes in recent years, but the name has changed a bit. Here’s our full list of electric trikes and here’s the official company website with more info and contact number.
