5 years agoSURFACE does a nice job on the Boar, and oh how I wish my $$$ fat bike came with a throttle only option. A couple areas of concern, the 11-34 cassette would not cut the mustard for any hill climb, let alone a snow covered hill, considering Surface is Canadian and all they have in Canada is winter 8 months of the year. A 11 speed cassette or a wider spaced tooth range would be more applicable to a off road bike such as the boar. Weight is an issue here as this bike is heavy, save money by skipping the fenders and opt for some Chinese plastic fender types available for as little as $5 and up, no noise and budget friendly. Overall though, good bang for your hard earned buck !

5 years agoGreat comments, Jo! And for anyone who is considering a smaller chainring to make starting, climbing, and sand/snow easier to slog through, check out these ones from Race Face that are available in different colors too :) if you have a link to some good fender suggestions, please, post it here for us too :D

5 years agoI read these reviews before purchasing so I thought my experience might help others looking at this bike. I purchased in February of 2020. FYI my review of the bike on their site doesn’t show… Interesting!!!
The bike it self is awesome but it is sadly overshadowed by its poorly run customer service/company. I would not deal with this company again. Due to company knowingly sent a display that had a glitch and could not stay a class 2 and show mph with correct settings. After a few tries to send me one that works right they had to bypass the setting at factory in order for it to be set correctly. I don’t think it was ever fixed just bypassed. Then they downplayed what happened. I’ve written to the sales manager and the general manager but no response. The wrong front rack that was sent could be easily overlooked. But their questionable practices would make me nervous to buy from.

5 years agoHi Damir, that’s such a bummer! I thought the bike was so cool… I’m so sorry to hear that the display was goofed and the rack wasn’t right. I have personally met two of the team members (and know them for years), so I’m sad that they didn’t meet your hopes for good customer service. While I cannot speak for them directly, I do wish you the best with the new display, and hope that there aren’t other issues that crop up in the near future for you :/

3 years agoWhy is Surface604 using a 30.4mm (ID) seat tube for their mountain bikes? You cannot buy a dropper post in this dimension. At best you would have to shim a 27.2, which is not ideal for such an application with regard to strength and reliability.

3 years agoHi Larry, I cannot speak directly for them, but perhaps the wider diameter tubing is used for overall strength. It might improve frame strength to have wider tubes and be less expensive to use a shim for the seat tube than taper it in. I’m not a bike designer at all, but I’ve noticed many sizes of seat tubes over the years and often wondered why there are so many choices vs. just a few. I’ve noticed handlebars going from 25.4mm to 31.8mm and now up to 35mm for improved strength with lightweight materials like carbon fiber on trail bikes. Those are my two cents ;)
